I'm trying to some of my own little BF2 vids, but here's the problem I'm having. Here is the sequence of events so far:

1. Created local server
2. Started recording with the following console command - demo.recordDemo Test1
3. Screwed around a bit to get some footage
4. Stopped recording with - demo.stopRecording
5. Disconnected from the local server I created
6. Went to the community tab to load and view the file
7. File wasn't there in the community tab
8. Went into the BF2 root directory -C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\xpack\Demos - the files were there but aren't showing up to where I can view them..

What gives here? I have FRAPS which I was going to record the playback with and then edit that with Sony Vegas 6. I can't get past the second step which is playing back the file that I just recorded. Can someone please help me with this? I have the game patched to the 1.4. Could 1.4 be causing the problem?

Using battle recorder

I. Initiating battle recorder

(Note: In order to be able to initiate battle recorder you must be the server host.)

A. In order to initiate battle recorder you must first open the command prompt page simply press the command prompt button while logged into a game (located above the TAB key, Right of the 1 key, and below the ESC key)

B. Now type “Demo.Recorddemo", then hit space bar and place a name or label, and press enter. You are now recording and all activity and non activity on the server you are on is now being recorded

C. When you are finished recording open command prompt(see A.) and now type demo.stoprecording you should get a message that says stopped recording.

II. Retrieving and viewing

A. Click the Start Button go to my computer. Then select program files, find the file labeled EA games open it and proceed to select these files in this order. Bf2, Mods, Bf2, Demos. There you will find all battle recordings Copy those.

B. Now go to you’re My Documents page, select the bf2 file, then select the Profiles file, and then select the default file. Once inside of this file right click scroll down to new and create a new file name it “Demos” this is the file in which you will paste all of your battle recordings.

C. Now in order to view your recordings open the bf2 program and at the menu title select community in the right hand side of your screen you should se a list of all your recordings. Select the Desired file and click play now at the bottom of the right hand side of your screen.

III. Battle Recorder controls

Q- Brings up a menu of all the available controls such as slow mo and restart and fast forward…. Sadly there is not a rewind feature.
W A S & D are how you move your camera position and the Mouse is how you pitch the camera angle.

Space Bar will select a different player to focus on and right click will unlock off of them.

CTRL will lower the camera until you reach the ground and Z will raise it.

If you want to move your camera more slowly in order to get that one good shot simply hold the SHIFT key and you camera will slow down substantially.

1-0 will control the speed of the action on the game.

took me 30 secs to goggle the battlerecorder info. vegas is just drag and drop. drag your video in and leave seperations between them. view each individual clip and edit them to what you want by hovering your mouse over the front of clip or back of clip and sliding it left or right .

once you have done that to all your clips place them all together. here you can overlay each clip so it fades quickly from one to another.. its actually very very easy. same with sound you can change all properties of the sound easily also. even music is easy. just drag and drop.

Hell...if you want ill make a video of me making a video on it.. kinda like an idiots guide tutorial. lol

If you want our opening credits that we made for the intro of you movie let me know and ill give you a download link for it

here it is. this is what most of all our movies will have for opening credits

yeah, if you could make the video of you making a short vid that would be great, i am an idiot to begin with sometimes, but once i see it done, I can get it pretty quick. oh and beret, that little key to the left of the 1 is actually called the tilde key (~).

ok, here is a video of me making a very simple video. I left out all the fancy stuff like different transitions and text affects and editing music. but for music i use somehting different anyway. This is just very basic video creation. In the video you will notice none of my clips have sound tracks attached to them. I record without sound because all my vids are put to music. Have fun, good luck and I hope this Vegas for Idioits video will help some of you to get a quick overview and understanding of it. One last thing, project files after being completed can be from 1-5 gig. after im done with vegas rendering this is when i import the newly created avi into windows movie maker which everyone has by default then i save it using the high quality ntsc format

http://team-moab.zftp.com/movies/vegasidiots.wmv about 25 Mb after I encoded it. This video was around 1.89 gig.
