I keep getting kicked by PunkBuster for "Blocked O/S Privileges"?

Please temporarily disable other security type programs you have running such as anti-virus, process guard, SDProtector, etc. to find out which of them is blocking PB's access to resources on your computer. You either need to run PB without the blocking program(s) or play on non-PB servers. Also make sure you run the game under an Administrator or equivalent account under Windows. If you do have access an admin account, you can right click on the application you want to run and select "Run As". This will allow you to give admin access to that program and should allow you to play with a limited user.

I keep getting kicked by PunkBuster for "Insufficient O/S Privileges"?

Download and run this file from any location, it will check for adware that stops you from being able to play on PB servers. The VX2 adware edits your user rights when it infects your computer, and many programs do not repair this when they remove it.

http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/VX2Finder(126).exe

Click the "Find VX2.betterinternet info" button to make sure that you don't have this adware. If there are no files listed, go on to the last step. If you find the adware files, (it is usually 3 random named dll files) Select all the files found.

Press 'Delete These Files'. The program will delete all files but one that will be deleted on reboot. Allow program to reboot. Once Restarted:

Press 'Guardian.reg'.
Press 'User Agent'.
Press 'Restore Policy'.
Clicking on "find vx2.BetterInternet info" again should show all fields blank.
If you have no adware files, just click on the "Restore Policy" Button

and here is another post i found

A) "Invalid O/S privilages"
How this problem happens, is that Punkbuster now requires the system playing to be running, or appear to be running on Windows XP, or Windows 2000. The reason why is because some cheats/hacks cannot be detected otherwise. I will now quote exactly from the even-balance web-site there fix.

"Is there some way to modify my system configuration to be an administrator equivalent from PunkBuster's perspective?

Yes (under Win XP Pro or Win 2K). This can be accomplished by setting certain privileges for the user that will run the game. To do this, first temporarily log in as an Administrator. Then go to Control Panel =>Administrative Tools =>Local Security Policy. This will open up the Local Security setting window. Expand the Local Policies folder and select User Rights Assignment. This will bring up a list of security settings for the computer. You will need to add the user that will be launching the game to have the following privileges. If the user is logged in while making changes, the user must be logged out and back in for the changes to take effect.

* Debug Programs
* Load and unload device drivers
* Manage auditing and security log
* Modify Firmware environment values
* Profile Single Process

This is done by double clicking on the setting and then the "Add User or Group" button. You can either type the user or group name into the field or click on advanced to select from a list. If you select advanced, you may need to click on the "Object Types" button and make sure all 3 boxes are checked. Then click "OK". Click on the "Find Now" button to generate a full list of all users and groups on the system. Highlight the user you want to add the rights to and click "OK". Keep clicking "OK" untill you are back at the Local Security Settings window. Repeat this process for the rest of the list. That user will now be able to play on PB servers without getting kicked for "Inadequate O/S Privileges".

cool.gif Error- Trying to Out-Update PB
This error occurs when apparently your system can-not update punkbuster properly. A way to fix this is to manually update "PBweb.exe" before you boot up your game.

I will now directly Quote PB on the issue.

There are two major components to the PunkBuster system: The PunkBuster Server (runs on game servers) and the PunkBuster Client (runs on the players' playing machines while they play the game). Both components are designed to automatically keep themselves up to date with the latest versions of PunkBuster. The PB Server software routinely checks with the master PB Servers and downloads new updates when they become available and then distributes the new versions down to the PB Clients when players running an old version connect to the server.

When PB can't keep itself up to date, various error messages will be displayed. For PB Server Admins, messages will be displayed to all players when a player joins who has a newer version of PB than what is currently running on the PB Server. Also, PB Servers running old versions will not be able to detect and deal with all of the latest versions of cheat/hack software. For players of the games, when their PB can't keep itself up to date, they will be removed (kicked) from PB Servers and may see one of a variety of messages ... "Distress", "Technical Problem loading ...", or "Update Timeout".

In almost every case where PB cannot keep itself up to date, the problem is a firewall or some type of security software that blocks communication with the master PB Servers. In order for PB to be able to keep itself up to date, you must open the appropriate UDP ports for your game. The port numbers can be found in the FAQ section for each game we support. If this can be resolved, then PB will be able to auto-update and function properly the way it was designed and PBWEB will not be necessary.

For users who are unable to resolve the issues dealing with master PB Server communication or who have unreliable Internet connections that cause PB auto-updates to fail, there are basically two ways to manually update PunkBuster. The old way is to visit the download page on this website linked from the appropriate game's support page.

The new way to update PunkBuster manually is to use the PBWEB program that we developed to emulate a web browser and download the proper files directly from our website's download pages.

To use PBWEB, you first must know where your home "pb" directory is located on your hard drive. To do this, enter "pb_homepath" into your console (without the quotes). Players can press the tilde key (the ~ key) from any game screen to bring down (and/or raise) their console. After entering "pb_homepath", the game will display the path to the home directory. At that location, the subdirectory called "pb" is the home "pb" directory.

Download the appropriate PBWEB for your operating system from the links provided below. Be sure to save into the home "pb" directory on your hard drive and then launch PBWEB. If PBWEB is not launched from inside the home "pb" directory, then it will not work. Note that PBWEB works for all games supported by PunkBuster and it works for both Players and also Admins running PB Servers.

For Windows: pbweb.exe or pbweb.zip

C) Punk-Buster Slowing Your system down?
An easy way to make Punk-Buster check you system less often, is to from the game's main screen, press the tilde key (the ~ key to the left of 1) to bring down the console and enter the following line (without the quotes): "pb_system 0". Also doing the exact things as that one, instead of "pb_system 0", type "PB_SLEEP 500" (Without quotes) This has helped me out alot, and hope it will help you smile.gif
