Yea, we do. And sorry for mixing up the army and USMC. What is the difference other than that the USMC has planes and choppers?
Its okay.
The Marine Corps was first established so the Navy, during The Revolutionary War were used for the fighting ship to ship, land on coasts to take over coastal positions, be the fighters so the sailors wouldn't have to etc etc. Much of what they did during WWII. Our mission hasn't changed all that much except we rely on our own source of logistics, helo's, air power and close air support. We don't have to look to the AF guys to help us out, we have our own Mairnes in the air.
The Marine Corps invented many of today's tactics. Close air support, use of formations for infantry (Marine Raiders CO came up with it, I forget his name). We specialize in amphibious landings, we're the only service that has dedicated units to guards nuclear weapons on a sub, and guard our embassy's around the world.
We're instilled with a much greater sense of pride, es spirit de corps, honor, and responsibility.
My job right now in the Marine Corps is a Howitzer Section Chief. I'm an E-5 thats a Sergeant. If I was in the Army I'd have to be an E-7 to take charge of the same weapons system. We're given responsibility and leadership at a much lower rank compared to the Army.
Hammer. I'm breakin this down to him barney style...anything to add?
