Ok, I installed the Battlefield 2 Complete Collection (DVD) on my new laptop that just came in today. After all the waiting and smoked cigarettes, I go to run BF2, and I get the splash screen that says BF2, then screen goes balck for a second, then boom desktop. I'm running XP Pro SP2, 2 Gb RAM, and AMD dual core processor. I ran the EA Easy Info Product three times, andit gave me three seperate processor readings, one being 743 mHz, 803 mHz, and -11175 mHz. That's right, that's a negative eleven thousand mega hertz processor speed. WTF??!!! anyone else had dual core problems?

You need the patches.. Did you get them yet?

the DVD came back once, but I sent it out again last week.

it happens to about 1/8th of all the bf2 players..... theres a fix for it, it happened to me.

i believe there is a fix for this as in a MS fix but easiest way would be setting the affinity to one core, meaning that that the program will run exclusively on one core; by default, Windows seems to try some convoluted method involving using 50% of each.

Setting the affinity will have no effect either way on Bf2 other then allowing it to run. because BF2 doesn't support multithreading it will use no more than one core, no matter whether it needs 100% or not. A program has to be specifically instructed in code to create a seperate thread for dual processing; to a game without this, it simply appears that it's running on one core only. BF2 - to my knowledge - is not multithreaded unlike newer games such as FEAR, CoD2 and Quake 4.

If you open the Task Manager and click Processes, you get a list of all the running processes. Right click the process you want to edit and select "Set Affinity...", then uncheck the CPU you don't want it running on. you are going to have to do this everytime you want to play or you can use this program to change the affinity by command line so its never needed to be done manualy http://www.robpol86.com/Pages/imagecfg.php

nevermind my firdt post try this sollution

AMD Dual-Core Optimizer - The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core's Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core or multiple processor systems.

Wish I had Dual Core...
Matt
well dual core prices are goin down so it shouldnt be to long before you should be able to get one.

For some reason, the damn game isn't even recognizing my processor. I double click the BF2 shortcut, then I get the splash screen (the one where it says BATTLEFIELD 2 and it shows up in a little rectangle in the center of the screen and you can stills ee the majority of your desktop), then the screen goes black for a second, and normally you would see the EA Games logo appear, then the Dice logo, etc. But after the screen goes black, instead of going to the EA logo, it goes right back to the desktop like I had never even tried to run the game. WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE???? FUCK YOU EA!!!

Sounds like a plan
Omalley
only 2 problems it could be

1. you need the dual core fix

2. your video card cant handle bf2 or your drivers need to be updated

Scott- i got the Dual Core Optimizer and it still goes all fishey, er...jewey on me...
Fish
FUCKING HALLIBURTON!!!!!!

I sent that a long time ago... Should I send it again?

Ok here's the most recent sit rep on the computer situation:

-Reformatted and reinstalled windows xp pro sp 2
-went step by step installing the supplied drivers that came with the laptop
-checked the system info (right click my comp, properties, gaze at minimalistic info given); stated correctly
-ran dx diag; got correct specs
-ran ea easy info; got random off the wall shit every time i checked it
-reinstalled bf2, patched it to 1.41
-disable opening vids by renaming them from the .bik extensions to .backup
-i still get the bf2 splash, screen flcikers black, then CTD.

Fish - If you could send me a disc with the most recent drivers on it for the following items, i'm sure i can find some small asian schoolboy in a sailor suit to orally please you:

AMD Turion TL-64 X2 Dual Core Processor
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 Go 256Mb Memory Card

Scott - If you can think of anything else magical that I can try and do, please let me know. I tried the dual core optimizer, but for some reason, i don't think it's working properly.
