My internet has been dropping a lot lately and I don't know why. I had the comcast guy come out thinking it was something with my service, but it's still happening. The little earth globe thing disappears and it says I'm connected to a network but not the interweb. Any suggestions/insults/both?

is it just yours or other puters loose internet randomly also?
are you connected to a router? and if so what kind I have a linksys and i need to reboot it every once and a while or my connection gets screwy. i also need to reboot my modem as well sometimes. what comcast modem do you have? do you have comcast triple play with the phone? if you have the comcast phone as well check and see if you have dial tone when you loose internet. My modem has a battery on the side of it that i yank out when i do a reboot so it does a complete power off/on cycle. if you connect directly to the modem then i would start with the easiest first and check your connections. check or change out your ethernet wire. if your cable line has too many splitters in it as well that could cause low signal. one splitter may be bad or old as hell. old cable lines/poor connections can cause noise in the line causing drops as well. cheap gold plated cable connectors could also be an issue, gold plating tends to flake off over time and cause shitty connections. ask people on your street if they have any issues with internet dropping. it may be an issue with a comcast router or if there is construction in the area like pole work, this may also cause some issues. alot of rain in the area as well can cause nodes on the pole to go bad too. when the comcast guy was there did he check signal strength at the pole, then your drop at your house(thats the line from the pole to your house) then at your modem to see if there was any signal lost or interference? I ended up having some similar issues where my shit was dropping all the time and it was an old shitty cable so i ran a new dedicated line for my modem. you may have to try to run a dedicated line for your internet to trouble shoot as well. like where the cable comes directly into your home thats called the drop, from the drop put a splitter, thenfrom the splitter run 1 line directly to modem and the other line from the splitter to tv's or wherever they need to go to supply cable. last thing i can think of is the possibility of your NIC card going bad. does it start dropping after some time of being on the computer or does it happen right away sometimes? if it happens over time your NIC may be getting to warm and shittting out. its tough to just pinpoint any one reason that could be causing it. as for the nic card, hook up a laptop hardwired to your same connection you use for your pc and see if that drops as well. thats one way of eliminating the possibility of a bad nic card. -------------------- You know you have played too many hours of Battlefield when...
